Welcome to Ibrahim Masjid Burnley

Masjid Ibrahim was established in 1996 and is situated on the corner of Clegg St and Elm St in the town of Burnley in Lancashire.

Ever since, it has catered for the religious and social needs of the community in various forms. In addition to the five daily prayers, the Masjid is a focal point and plays a pivotal part in the life of the local Muslim community.

An important function of the Masjid is to also provide religious education, and in this regard it provides regular classes for both children and adults. Individuals and groups from all faiths including local primary and secondary schools frequently organise guided tours of the Masjid, which provides them with an ideal opportunity to gain a better understanding of both Islam and how a Masjid functions.

The prayer halls on the ground floor as well as those on the first floor have a combined capacity to hold up to 500 individuals, with separate facilities for men and women, including separate entrances, wudhu facilities and classrooms. In addition to the five daily prayers, they are utilised for Jummah prayers (Friday), Taraweeh prayers (Ramadhan), Eid prayers, as well as community events.

“You are the best community that has ever been raised for humanity; you enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid what is wrong, and you believe in God.” – (Quran 3:110)

In light of this Qur’anic verse, we believe that all dimensions of Islam must be revived and established in human life and society.

Islam is not simply a set of rituals and a few do’s and don’ts. It is rather, an all embracing and balanced system that encompasses both the inner (i.e. spiritual and moral) and outer dimensions (social, economic and political) of human life and society.

The Glorious Qur’an offers guidance for every sphere of human life: individual, social, economic, political and international. This guidance includes a set of universal beliefs, acts of worship, as well as moral, social and economic values and principles that provide a coherent framework for life. It is our belief that submission to Allah Almighty alone, in both our individual and collective life, can help people maintain their human dignity and become truly free.

The affairs of the Masjid are looked after by a management committee. Members of the Masjid management committee annually vote to elect a President (Nazim). An elected President can complete no more than 2 consecutive terms. The President then selects a team of capable volunteers who deal with the day to day running of the Masjid.

The Masjid continues to serve the local community in all religious and spiritual matters whilst also endeavouring to be a cohesive force and engaging and connecting with other non-Muslim organisations to build trust and understanding

The Masjid is a registered charity and all the work is undertaken by volunteers and therefore is always a need for new volunteers who have relevant experience and skills that can benefit the Masjid. If you have any suggestions/feedback as to how we can improve things or you want to help, please contact us.
